What other ingredients are best not to add?

Bay leaf should be used with caution. This spice is very insidious and can irrevocably spoil the taste of the dish.

Therefore, it is better to choose it in sheet form rather than powder form.

In this case, after 10 or 15 minutes after adding the bay leaf, it is advisable to remove it from the pan. Otherwise, the dish will be bitter.

Cloves are not suitable for borscht. They will give the soup a spicy and slightly sour taste.
