A nutritionist has warned against storing three popular foods in the refrigerator.
Keeping some foods cold can lead to potentially fatal food poisoning.
Indian clinical nutritionist Janvi Sanghvi has named three foods that should never be stored in the refrigerator, Mail Online reports.
She listed the onion first.
Storing this product in the refrigerator may result in mold growth.
The expert explained that excess moisture in onions creates an ideal environment for the growth of fungal spores, which are dangerous to health.
According to the nutritionist, onions should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place.
She also said storing garlic in the refrigerator carries similar health risks.
When cooled, garlic becomes rubbery and loses its beneficial properties. Moreover, mold and fungi can develop in garlic.
The expert named potatoes as the third product that can become harmful when stored in the refrigerator.
Sanghvi cautioned that cooling the tubers causes the starches to convert to sugars, resulting in a sweeter taste.
Cooking such potatoes will result in the formation of a potentially dangerous compound called acrylamide.
