Doctors list symptoms of "winter depression"

The so-called "winter depression" is more typical for northern countries.

However, Russians also sometimes become despondent immediately after the New Year holidays.

Scientists from the Netherlands listed the symptoms that are most characteristic of this condition in a publication .

Symptoms

The most typical signs of depression are:

  • overeating;
  • weakness;
  • burnout;
  • unwillingness to do anything;
  • drowsiness;
  • apathy;
  • unwillingness to communicate, etc.

It is believed that they are caused by vitamin D deficiency, disruption of biological rhythms, climate and many other things.

And drowsiness, as scientists believe, is caused by a lack of sunlight. Because of this, the pineal gland is activated, producing excess melatonin. This hormone is responsible for sleep.

How to get rid of winter depression

To alleviate the apathetic state, experts recommend getting more sleep. 7-9 hours is the optimal amount of sleep.
