Almost everyone experiences a stuffy and swollen nose during cold season.

However, in an effort to alleviate the condition, people often do it incorrectly.

In an interview with aif.ru, Vladimir Zaitsev, an otolaryngologist of the highest qualification category, told us how you should never treat a runny nose.

The ENT specialist warned that vasodilator drops should not be overused when dealing with a runny nose.

They are dangerous not only because they become addictive, but also because they cause imbalance, as they stop working over time.

The doctor also warned about the danger of rinsing the nose with salt. This can only dry out the mucous membrane.

Also, the saline solution can get into the sinuses, which will lead to sinusitis.

You shouldn't get carried away with folk remedies like sea buckthorn and vegetable oils. They block the microvilli in the nose, so they can't perform their functions.

The doctor also reminded about the dangers of taking antibiotics on your own.

Earlier, the expert recommended a simple way to treat a runny nose.
