Former traffic cop who let Moscow biker's killer go free for bribe sentenced

A Moscow court has found a former traffic cop guilty of failing to detain the killer of biker Kirill Kovalev.

The guilty verdict was handed down by the Lyublinsky District Court of the capital on Thursday, August 8. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Moscow courts of general jurisdiction.

Dmitry Bovtunov, who released Shahin Abbasov for a bribe, received 3.5 years in prison.

In addition, he will be deprived of the right to hold public office for three years that involves performing the functions of a government representative.

The convicted person previously worked in the traffic police of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the South-Eastern Administrative District. When a conflict between Abbasov and Kovalev occurred in Lyublino, as a result of which the latter was killed, Bovtunov was on duty.

The criminal gave a police officer a bribe of 30 thousand rubles and continued to hide from justice, but was eventually arrested.
