There is a common belief that ice cream helps with a sore throat.

It is believed that the cold treat relieves inflammation and alleviates pain.

The myth was dispelled in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by Viktor Lunev, assistant professor at the Department of Outpatient Therapy at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University.

The expert reminded that people who have a sore throat, acute respiratory viral infection, coronavirus or any other respiratory infection are recommended to drink plenty of warm drinks and food. However, they should not drink scalding hot tea or cold drinks.

Lunev admitted that ice cream might provide short-term relief, but it is better not to resort to this method.

A large amount of cold treats can lead to hypothermia, which will further worsen the patient's condition.

The expert recommended abstaining from ice cream even after tonsil removal.

If you really want something sweet, then you should wait until the ice cream melts and is not so cold, the doctor concluded.
