Many people are still held captive by myths regarding cardiovascular diseases.
One of the dangerous misconceptions is the belief that heart problems only affect older people.
In fact, as cardiovascular surgeon Dmitry Nekrasov told Life.ru , there are a number of factors that cause heart problems even in fairly young people.

He also listed other myths that many people still believe in.
Nekrasov refuted the belief that a person's weight does not affect the state of the cardiovascular system. In fact, every extra kilogram above the norm increases the risk of death from a heart attack or stroke.
Thirdly, alcohol cannot protect the heart, since even small doses contain toxins that destroy the human cardiovascular system.
Another myth concerns the belief that any fat is contraindicated for the heart. This expression is only half true and concerns animal fats.
Vegetable fats, as well as fish oil, help reduce the concentration of “bad cholesterol” in the body.
The fifth myth is the belief that quitting smoking will not save you from a heart attack. Nekrasov noted that smokers are 70 times more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases.
However, if you quit smoking in time, the body will be able to recover.
