German who served 13 years by mistake will pay 100 thousand euros for his imprisonment

A German who spent 13 years in prison on false charges will have to pay 100,000 euros for accommodation and food while in custody.

After his release, the man demanded compensation, but received a bill from the prosecutor's office for 100 thousand euros.

Prosecutors believe the former inmate owes the department money. He apparently owes money for his room and board in prison, The Local de reports.

After his release, the man initially received €368,700 in compensation for pain and suffering.

However, when he filed a claim for additional compensation, he was served with a counterclaim for 100,000 euros.

According to the prosecutor's office, the man saved 50,442.48 euros on accommodation and food during his 13 years in prison. He also earned 2 euros an hour as a prison worker.

Now, as prosecutors emphasize, both of these amounts must be returned.

It is also claimed that during his 13 years in prison, he earned almost 50 thousand dollars.

In total, the former prisoner was required to return approximately 100 thousand euros.
