5 Ways to Get Your Mind Right When You're Feeling Anxious

How anxiety manifests itself

  • Physiological: increased heart rate, uncontrolled rapid movements of body parts, sweating, dry mouth, hot or cold flashes, bowel upset, refusal to eat or excessive overeating
  • Psychological: uncontrolled emotions, isolation, premonition of danger, panic attacks, paranoia.

What to do if you are suddenly overcome with anxiety

Share your condition with someone close to you. Firstly, you will splash out the negative thoughts and emotions that haunt you. This will completely or partially rid you of them. Secondly, you will be supported, helped to judge the situation and look at it more soberly.

Focus your attention on something external. Switch your internal sensations to watching a movie, studying a landscape or another person's appearance.

This way you will gradually return to a normal state, feel yourself in society and space, restoring your connection with reality.

Sit down, calm down and analyze the root of the problem. What do you feel? What caused this condition? How significant is this reason and can it be solved?

Analyze the stages and methods of solving the problem. Answer these questions and mentally imagine how your problem was solved.

Breathe. Since physiological signs are very evident when anxiety occurs, it is very important to work with breathing. Meditation, breathing into a bag, etc. Use any method that comes to mind.

Do something monotonous. Play a quiet routine game on your phone, draw, count sheep. Anything to bring your state and rhythm to calm.

The main prevention of anxiety and its manifestations is the ability to calmly approach stressful situations, maintain a sleep and nutrition regimen, engage in at least minimal physical activity and learn to work with your emotions.
