Food social cards will appear in the Kaliningrad region next year.
Governor Alexey Besprozvannykh announced this on Thursday, December 12, during a live broadcast.
The head of the region reported that he had decided to resume the program in 2025, which involves the introduction of social cards, RIA Novosti reports.
The official recalled that the social card had previously worked in the region for a short period of time.
Besprozvannykh emphasized that the initiative is aimed at a vulnerable category of citizens.
With the help of this card, Russians will be able to purchase essential products.
During the direct line, citizens also asked questions about food prices in the region.
The Governor emphasized that products reach store shelves in two ways: from local producers and imported from other regions.
If we talk about local products, then it is easier to control prices, Besprozvannykh noted.
Goods brought from other regions of the Russian Federation will cost more, at least due to logistics costs under the pressure of sanctions.
For his part, the governor reported that he had approached the FAS with a request to expand the list of socially important goods.
As for social cards, they will be issued first to citizens of retirement age.
The main criterion will be income below the subsistence level.
