Among other elements of interior decor used by interior designers, the most interesting and creative is undoubtedly the carpet.
It is the carpet that can give the room a unique, original look and bring comfort and coziness, be it a living room, bedroom or children's room.
Interior design and interior expert Yulia Tychino says that today there is a huge selection of carpets to suit every taste - classic and modern designs, traditional ornaments and patterns, various materials and manufacturing methods.
To choose the right carpet that will organically complement the interior of your room, you can contact a designer or use the basic rules for choosing a carpet and do it yourself. What factors should be taken into account when choosing a carpet?
One of the fundamental factors when choosing a carpet is size. Since carpets are divided into three main groups - small, medium and large, then following simple rules, you can accurately select a carpet that perfectly meets your requirements.
Small rugs will look best in front of a fireplace, bed, window, serving as a decorative accent to a certain area of the room.
A medium-sized carpet is already an independent decoration and its task is to highlight the area of the room in which it is located.
Large rugs placed in the center of the room will create the overall design and mood of the room. It is also permissible to place several small rugs, provided that they are made in the same style and have similar color combinations.
The choice of carpet also depends on the size of the room. If you are looking for a carpet for a small room, then the best option would be a light-colored carpet, which will visually enlarge the room and make it more spacious.
A large room, on the contrary, will visually become smaller if there are carpets in darker colors and geometric patterns.
The purpose of the room is no less important. For rooms such as a living room, dining room, library or study, the best option would be a carpet in calm, restrained tones with a low pile, due to its practicality.
The color scheme of children's room carpets is most often bright, with images of characters from children's books and cartoons.
There are also options for single-color small rugs with a fluffier pile. In the bedroom, carpets that completely cover the entire floor or, conversely, bedside rugs with a high fluffy pile will be appropriate.
If you decide to opt for a carpet with an original pattern or a traditional ornament, then do not forget about the main rule that all professional designers follow - to achieve harmony and balance in the interior, the room furniture and the carpet ornament should match.
It is worth noting that an ornament or pattern will help you hide a stain or abrasion on the carpet.
For a room already filled with light, warm shades, a cool-toned rug would be more appropriate. A room with a darker interior would be balanced by warm tones.
If you want to strictly follow the canons in the design of the room, then you should take into account the color combination of the carpet with the floor of the room.
If the room has a light floor, then ideally the color of the floor and carpet should be in the same color scheme. If the floor is dark, then in this case it is best to play on the contrast in order to highlight individual elements of the room.
An important factor when choosing a carpet is its cost. The cost of a carpet usually depends on the country of manufacture, materials, type and production technology.
When choosing a carpet, remember that the highest quality products are hand-made from natural fibers (silk, wool, flax, cashmere). And the most expensive carpets are those woven in Nepal, India and Iran, countries known for their ancient traditions and masters of weaving craft.
Taking into account all the above factors, you will certainly find an option that will ideally complement your interior and give the room additional comfort and individual character.
