Ice cream, sweet drinks, high-calorie snacks, and alcoholic drinks are the most common weekend temptations that cause extra pounds.
Vacation is not the best time to count calories and follow a diet. But how can you survive this without gaining weight, and at the same time not deny yourself pleasure?
Vacationing is often a challenge for people who follow a daily diet.

Having food available during your stay at an all-inclusive resort or a full meal plan at a hotel is tempting, but temporarily not following the rules can result in extra pounds.
So, to return from vacation with a figure that you have been working on for a long time, you should follow a few rules.
Moderate Eating on Vacation
Unlimited access to food leads some to lose control over the amount of food they eat.
The smells are tempting, the steaming pots and cold beer whet the appetite and as a result people constantly eat something, even when they are not hungry.
That's why it's worth sticking to the principle of not eating between meals and eating a decent meal instead of a snack. Portions should not differ in size from those you eat at home.
Applying the principle of a small plate for breakfast and a large plate for dinner will help in moderation. After eating, you should feel a slight feeling of satiety, not overeating. And eating a large amount of food at one time is the cause of fat accumulation and weight gain.
Between meals, beach and pool bars tempt with sweet snacks. Use common sense and choose tasty but less caloric snacks. Swap waffles with whipped cream for waffles with fruit, and chocolate-covered ice cream for sorbets.
Regular meals
Most of us tend to snack on vacation. In this situation, it is useful to plan meals with breaks of no more than 3-4 hours, i.e. breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks.
When you have a buffet at your disposal, don't forget about vegetables. They are low in calories and contain a lot of water and fiber, which makes you feel full.
If you have the opportunity, you should choose wisely. If, on the other hand, you eat in a restaurant, you should order local but easily digestible dishes.
- Breakfast. For breakfast, it is best to choose lean meat, black bread, vegetable pates, low-fat dairy products or yogurt with muesli and fresh fruit, milk and fruit cocktails.
- Lunch. The dinner plate should consist mainly of vegetables. The protein supplement can be fish, bean cutlets, such as beans, kidney beans or soybeans. The source of complex carbohydrates should be cereals, rice or potatoes.
- Dinner. Should be light. Different types of salads are a perfect idea. Like breakfast, you can finish the day with a cocktail.
- Snacks: Between meals, you can try some fruit, a handful of nuts, or a small amount of local sweets.
Try local delicacies while on holiday.
If you want products that are not necessarily good for you, then put them in small quantities on your plate. Curiosity will be satisfied and a small portion will not hurt.
Foods That Help Burn Fat
If possible, it is worth planning your diet in such a way as to consume products that speed up metabolism and help burn fat. Especially since many of them are widely available in countries where we often spend our holidays. Among other things, these are:
- Peanut butter – contains protein and fiber, making it an ideal snack;
- Fish – contains omega-3 acids and protein;
- Grapefruit – has a low glycemic index, speeds up metabolism, cleanses the body of toxins and accelerates fat burning;
- Cottage cheese – contains CLA acid, which is involved in fat management processes;
- Avocado is a source of fatty acids that lower LDL cholesterol. This helps maintain a healthy and slim figure. It can be used instead of butter or added to salads;
- Green tea – accelerates fat burning, cleanses the body;
- Almonds – high in protein and fiber, nuts provide a feeling of fullness. Ideal for snacking;
- Watermelon – contains arginine (amino acid), which helps burn fat and prevents its accumulation. It also speeds up metabolism, and also contains a large amount of potassium and magnesium, which are easily washed out of the body with urine and sweat.
Tricks to Speed Up Metabolism
Vacations are meant to be fun and totally relaxed, and the gastronomic sins that go with them. However, to avoid feeling too guilty, it’s worth learning a few dietary tricks that will speed up your metabolism and prevent the accumulation of unwanted fat.
- Eating small portions regularly regulates your appetite and keeps your sugar levels steady. It is also the best solution for sudden cravings for sweets and fatty snacks.
- Adequate hydration of the body. But be careful! It is better to refuse sweet, carbonated drinks. It is necessary to drink at least 2 liters of water per day (more in summer). Thanks to this, the removal of toxins from the body is accelerated and cellulite is reduced.
- Physical activity. Relaxation is not only sunbathing on the beach. An hour of walking burns 200 kcal, and an hour of swimming – at least 400 kcal.
- Spices. It is worth adding herbs and spices to dishes. Pepper, chili pepper, curry, garlic, ginger, marjoram, oregano, basil have a great effect on metabolism.
- Dairy products speed up metabolism. So try to drink smoothies with milk, eat Greek yogurt, drink very healthy kefir.
- Chromium, magnesium and calcium speed up metabolism. Therefore, the diet should not lack dairy products, various types of nuts, eggs, fish and seafood.
