You can really tell by the smell that a person is sick.
Our body sometimes gives signals that are actually easy to recognize.
When a person is sick, changes occur in their body. These can affect the smell of their body, breath, or even urine. Here are some examples:
Diabetes
A person with diabetes has abnormal blood sugar levels.
When you're sick, your urine may smell sweet, like fruit. This happens because your kidneys are removing excess glucose.
Kidney problems
When your kidneys are not working well, your breath may smell fishy or ammonia-like. This is due to urea getting into your lungs and coming out with your breath.
Gout
With gout, the joints become inflamed and the urine begins to release uric acid.
If there is a lot of it, the smell becomes sharp and unpleasant, like ammonia.
Infections
Infections are often the cause of unpleasant odors. Sweat, skin, or breath may begin to smell bad.
Cancer
In cancer, cells develop abnormally. For example, in lung cancer, a sweet or musty odor appears.
