Colored lenses for eyes: benefit or harm. How to choose quality lenses

Colored lenses give you the opportunity to try a new look, adding brightness and confidence.

Modern optical products are easy to use, provided they are selected and cared for correctly.

Physical features

The selection of lenses begins with a consultation with an ophthalmologist, who determines the necessary optical properties. As a rule, a consultation and diagnostics can be done directly in the optics. In addition to the basic vision check, the doctor measures the curvature of the cornea, which affects the correct fit.

Standard eye lenses are hydrogel and silicone-hydrogel. Silicone in more expensive and modern products increases the wearing time, but due to the thickness, it takes time to get used to.

Features of hydrogel lenses:
• moisture content;
• easy care;
• should not be worn for longer than 8 hours.

Features of silicone hydrogel lenses:
• oxygen permeability;
• resistance to damage;
• should not be worn for longer than 16 hours.

Additionally, contact lenses can be treated with anti-glare and dirt-repellent liquid.

Color palette

Translucent tinted products contain up to 20% coloring pigment, so they emphasize the natural shade without changing the color of the eyes.

The option with minimal tinting includes “dark rim” lenses to enlarge the iris and “beauty lenses” to make the eyes shine.

In addition to colored ones, there are carnival lenses for short-term wear with complex designs that completely cover the iris.

Use and care

Lenses should not cause discomfort and be safe. The coloring pigment in contact lenses prevents oxygen from reaching the cornea of the eye, so it is recommended to wear colored lenses less often than regular ones.

Colored options should not be worn at night or when driving, as when the pupil dilates, the color film impairs vision and is harmful to eye health.

Also, lenses should not be worn if you have a cold due to the risk of damage to the mucous membrane.

Regular care of the products consists of cleaning and storing them in a special liquid.

The cleaning and saline solution is often replaced by a single multifunctional product. Due to the presence of pigment, colored lenses require a gentle composition, and therefore the bottle of such a solution should be labeled accordingly.
